Having trouble getting your microphone to work? Here are some steps to go through BEFORE your students get started with narration.
- Identify quality level of headset necessary for your intended project. (Simple lower elementary class projects vs a senior project/portfolio will determine quality of headsets.)
- Then test them on the computers you will be using!
- If the headset does not record, try these steps. Keep trying until one works!
- Check the volume, make sure it is not on mute!
- Go to the Control Panel (in Start), then Sound and Audio (some computers just say 'Sound'). Make sure the headset is selected as the recording device and listening device. Then preform the test hardware. Make sure you click "Apply".
- If the computer is not recognizing the headset, disconnect the headset and then plug it back in. Sometimes this makes the computer recognize the headset.
- Within PhotoStory, make sure you click the microphone icon (in narration) to do the microphone recording set-up.
- Pop-Up Messages: If you get one that asks:
- 'Block or Unblock', select 'Unblock'
- Do you want Photostory to adjust the settings for your headset, click no.
